What follows provides a fascinating glimpse into a society sufficiently remote as not to have experienced the full impact of live television and its effects on the lives of pupils. Tony Charlton and his colleagues reveal that currently there are very low rates of problem behaviour among nursery children in St Helena. The impact of the advent of television this year will be monitored to see if it has the purported debilitating effect on social and emotional functioning skills maintained by researchers elsewhere. The outcomes of this will be reported to readers at some future date.
