This journal has long encouraged debates on thinking skills in the belief that they represent important strategies for promoting learning in pupils with special educational needs. Here John Quicke elaborates on his own philosophy on the topic. He ranges widely, finally settling on three basic principles that, he argues, should underpin future strategies. He concludes that overemphasis on process has distorted the debate and led us to ignoring curriculum content.
