Summary Statistical aspects of the Widmark procedure for determining alcohol. From data given in the literature the standard deviation of the alcohol content of the blood of persons involved in accidents and suspected of being under the influence of alcohol is evaluated. This standard deviation has been found to depend on the number of samples used, on the number of analysts involved in the procedure, on the time interval between the accident and the sampling of the blood and on the standard deviation of the factor β (the decrease of the alcohol content of the blood during one hour without additional consumption of alcohol).
