Summary RURAL YOUTH AND ITS ORGANIZATION AS FACTORS OF SOCIAL CHANGE The countryside in Poland is subject to the process of an ageing population caused by the exodus of rural youth. The social position of young people in the villages is conditioned by their choice of profession. If they are engaged in farming, their position is lower, (because the most influential groups of farmers are middle‐aged, while) their educational, cultural, social and material aspirations are less well satisfied and often frustrated, because the countryside in Poland is still often underdeveloped in many aspects. The unsatisfied aspirations of young people have many positive and negative consequences for the village. The rural youth organization, the Socialist Rural Youth Union, in general plays a constructive role, stimulating the formation and realization of the aspirations of rural youth. RÉSUMÉ LA JEUNESSE RURALE ET SON ORGANISATION COMME PACTEURS DE CHANGEMENT Le vieillissement de la population des zones rurales polonaises s'accélère du fait de l'exode de la jeunesse. Le statut social des jeunes, dans le village, est fonction de la profession choisie: s'ils optent pour l'agriculture, leur statut est bas en raison de l'influcnce exercée par les groupes d'agriculteurs d'age moyen et leurs aspirations matérielles, sociales, culturelles s'en trouvent dans une certaine mesure négligées. De plus, les campagnes polonaises sont encore, à de nombreux égards, sous‐développées. Ces aspirations insatisfaites ont des conséquences à la fois positives et négatives au niveau du village. L'organisation de la jeunesse rurale ‐ 1'Union de la jeunesse rurale socialiste ‐ positives et joue en général un rôle constructif en stimulant la formation et la réalisation des aspirations des jeunes ruraux. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG LÄNDLICHE JUGEND UND THRE ORGANISATION ALS FAKTOREN SOZIALEN WANDELS Das flache Land in Polen ist einer Überalterung unterworfen, die von der Abwanderung der ländlichen Jugend verursacht wird. Die soziale Position der jungen Menschen in den Dörfern ist von ihrer Berufswahl bestimmt. Wenn sie sich der Landwirtschaft zuwenden, ist ihre Position niedriger, weil die einflussreichste Gruppe der Bauern mittleren Alters ist, weil ihre Aspirationen hinsichtlich Erziehung, Kultur, sozialer und materieller Bedingungen weniger befriedigt und sogar oft frustriert werden, weil das flache Land in Polen in vielen Dingen unterentwickelt ist. Die unbefriedigten Erwartungen junger Menschen haben viele positive und negative Konsequenzen für das Dorf. Die ländliche Jugendorganisation, die Sozialistische Ländliche Jugendunion spielt im allgemeinen eine konstruktive Rolle und regt die Formulierung und Verwirklichung dieser Erwartungen an.
