M agnussen S. Enhancement of figure reversal rate in intermittent light. Scand. J. Psychol ., 1972, 13 , 61–65.—The reversal rate of an ambiguous visual figure viewed in intermittent light increased with rate of intermittency up to a culminating point, whereafter it gradually fell off to the base level (steady light). The similarity between these results and the Brücke‐Bartley effect (enhancement of apparent brightness at lower flicker rates) is pointed out, and the possibility of a common physiological basis for the two phenomena is suggested.
