Psychol ., 1961, 2, 139–141.—If one observes moving water with one eye and a homogeneous, stationary background with the other, the background appears to move in the same direction as the water. Apart from the movement, however, the water is not visible. Thus movement can influence binocular vision without the other aspects of the moving entity entering into experience.
