Researchers into the stimuli of the innovation process have consistently found that the number of innovations stimulated by need pull substantially exceeds those stimulated by technology push. The research reported in this article indicates that when the innovations were divided into user and supplier active innovations, user active innovations were found to be predominantly stimulated by technology push. A possible explanation of this phenomenon is offered.
