Online publication date: 9‐May‐2005.An Apology In the January (vol. 76, no. 1) issue of The Political Quarterly we published an article by David Baker entitled 'Islands of the Mind: New Labour's Defensive Engagement with the European Union' (pp. 22‐36). This article unwittingly drew very extensively on an existing but unpublished paper by Stefano Fella entitled 'New Labour and the EU: Continuity, Change, Policy Shifts and Counter‐Shifts'. Dr Baker's article replicated or rephrased large parts of Dr Fella's original paper. Dr Fella's paper developed material previously published in his monograph New Labour and the European Union: Political Strategy, Political Transition and the Amsterdam Treaty Negotiation (Ashgate, 2002). The Editors and Dr Baker wish to apologise unreservedly to Dr Fella for this regrettable occurrence, which was entirely the responsibility of Dr Baker.
