Summary Dactylicapnos scandens (D. Don) Hutch., a tuberous rooted perennial, widespread from NW India through to Thailand and China, is described and illustrated. The confusing history and synonymy of this species is discussed, together with the rather different fruit colour and dimorphic leaf shape of the stock used in providing the description. The problems in providing adequate herbarium specimens are emphasized as well as the importance of examining living material.
