In this section, we reflect the views of people involved in all aspects of managing innovation. This issue features Mrs Steve Shirley, Life President, the F.I. systems house. A computer pioneer with a background in mathematics, she introduced the idea of the distributed office, of taking the work to the people, not the people to the work, and was one of the first to focus on the social and economic aspects of computing. This article is an adaptation of an interview Dr. Shirley gave for the EuroPACE ‘Management of Innovation’ series. Dr. Hilary Roberts from Manchester Business School conducted the interview.
