The companies which are making the greatest competitive progress are those which use information technology and decision support methods in the cleverest way. The field of application varies from marketing, via production and sales, to service. But they have two things in common. First, they use the new technologies to strengthen further some aspect of the enterprise which was already strong. Second, they make enough of an investment to be able to cope with a surge in their business.
