This job is a bed of nails. When I joined I thought I would have the opportunity to put some management principles into practice. But I have had to compromise my principles to be pragmatic. Applying normal management ideas only leads to conflict: I cannot rely on formal authority. It's a risky political situation for me. I stand or fall on my ability to provide leadership.
