An efficient and flexible out‐of‐core blocked skyline equation solver together with all of the other necessary subroutines for implementation in a general finite‐element program are presented in this paper. The in‐core and out‐of‐core storages required are reduced to the minimum. The structure of the equation solver and the other subroutines are simple and clear. These subroutines are ideal for use in general computer systems, especially the popular microcomputer, in solving large, linear or nonlinear structural systems.
