In 2007, we (four or five colleagues from the Netherlands and Germany) started discussing the observation that there was a clear need for a forum where applied research on the border between medical visualization and image processing could be presented. This type of trans-disciplinary research is especially relevant in the biomedical field. Informal interviews with a number of colleagues confirmed our observation and hence VCBM was born. Initially being Visual Computing for Biomedicine, we renamed it to Visual Computing for Biology and Medicine before the 2010 workshop.
