The Graphical Kernel System (GKS) is an international standard. It defines the functionality required for a two dimensional graphics environment. The functions incorporated into the standard are a result of considerable debate into the requirements for a computer graphics standard at the applications layer of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model. GKS can be used as the base system for the development of portable graphics applications programs.
