We amved in Nice at 2300 hours on Friday 6th September, after a 130 km/hr drive along the Autoroute La Provencale from Avignon. T h e other drivers in Nice had failed in their attempt to prevent us from reaching the Hotel Star, and we soon had the heavy load of Burgundy and Rhone wines stowed away in our room. (Somehow the succession of wine tasting or “degustations” that we had enjoyed with local growers as we wended our way South from Dijon always ended with a further bottle or six in the boot). A word of thanks is in order here for Voyages Kuoni for finding such a good hotel at such a reasonable price 220 FF room and breakfast for two, very helpful staff, and only ten minutes walk from the conference centre (or from the beach).
