The NAG Graphical Supplement is a library of high-level graphical routines, coded in Fortran and covering various aspects of the pictorial presentation of data, including curve and function drawing, contour plotting and surface views. The routines are designed for use in conjunction with almost any basic graphics package. As the name suggests, the software forms a Supplement to the NAG Library [l], a well established library of numerical and statistical routines which is distributed to about 600 sites worldwide. Mark 1 of the Graphical Supplement was released early in 1982. This paper traces the development of the Supplement, and describes the contents of Mark 1.
