Within the International Standards Organisation (ISO), working group TC97/SC5/WG2 "Computer Graphics" is dedicated to standardization efforts in the field of Computer Graphics. Its first big effort has resulted in the first Standard Draft Proposal in the field of Computer Graphics: Functional Interface of the Graphical Kernel System GKS (ISO-DP 7942, [ 11). Exploratory work on graphics metafiles has been in progress in WG2 since 1981. One of the first efforts of the metafile group was to give a general definition of graphics metafiles [2]:
