John Harris, Chief Executive of the British Institute of Learning Disabilities, desctribes work carried out with teachers and classroom assistants in special schools to establish effective ways of responding to challenging behaviours presented by pupils with severe learning disabilities. He suggests a range of strategies which may be helpful to teachers, their assistants and other professionals.
