Most primary school teachers are faced with the problem of trying to help young children with learning difficulties to understand elementary arithmetic. Harry Daniels, lecturer in the Department of Educational Psychology and Special Educational Needs, Institute of Education, London University, suggests one approach to solving the teaching problems that these children present.
