Are schools sufficiently aware of their own ethos and its potential influence on pupil behaviour and progress? This is the first example in this journal of a residential special school which is tackling difficult behaviour through a multidisciplinary problem‐solving group and, in the process, becoming more conscious of its ethos. Robert Stratford, senior tutor, M.Sc course in educational psychology, Southampton University, describes a one‐day workshop which has encouraged a continuing, problem‐solving approach among staff.
