Teaching evolution and natural selection is normally a problematical and complicatedtask (Lerner, 2000), but promising results were obtained by using modern informationtechnology tools (Edwards & Cohen, 1999).As an alternative, we developed a new interactive learning tool for teaching naturalselection and origin of random variations. The tool is based on text-to-picture transfor-mations, where the text represents the DNA of a ctional organism. Thus, basic geneticoperators like crossover, mutation, selection, and the inuence of the environment canbe studied in a simple and user-friendly way.
