Numerous reports have appeared in the professional literature supporting direct instructional procedures. Studies with handicapped and non‐handicapped learners have identified teaching functions associated with student achievement. The present paper describes a sequence of instructional activities particularly well suited to the needs of mildly handicapped learners. Special attention is given to techniques that maximize teacher effectiveness.
