Teaching practice has for a long time occupied a central role in teacher training. Yet questions remain as to the efficacy of this technique. This paper examines the practical training of teachers, taking into account recent research which has been conducted in microteaching. The conclusion made is that perhaps we should re‐examine some of the assumptions normally associated with regard to student practice, and focus more attention on the discrimination training elements involved.
