The Armed Services have a wide range of computer applications to training, the largest single use being in computer based simulators. There are strong interests in CAL for advanced technical training and the testing and record‐keeping aspects of computer managed learning. National Programme funds have supported some new activities and facilitated progress with others. The extensive American applications suggest several interesting lines for future British development but there are important differences between the two countries. CAL in the Armed Services is firmly embedded in a systems approach to training development.
