A national and regional survey of headteachers' familiarity with and reported adoption of twenty‐five new curriculum projects reveal thirteen questionnaire items which discriminate between schools on the basis of their selectivity. Only five of these items also discriminate between the schools according to the familiarity of headteachers or adoption reported in the school. When the analysis is based on the adoption of Nuffield or Schools Council Projects school selectivity appears more important compared to the analysis based on the total familiarity or adoption score.
