Summary This paper examines the current handicapping systems for team golf competitions. Ambrose, foursomes, Canadian foursomes and Pinehurst events are analysed. Statistical models are built to capture the stochastic features of these events, and to allow new handicapping systems to be developed. Some substantial discrepancies between the new and the old systems are noted.
