Summary This paper proposes a general method of estimation when a function of data and parameters is to be modelled, which is most efficient in a certain sense. It is applied to the following situation. If X(t) is the temperature at time t , the time Y taken for an insect to complete a stage of growth is assumed to satisfy the model.
