Summary General aspects of rough and ready statistical procedures are illustrated by a crude analysis of survivorship in a medical trial. It is argued that more sophisticated procedures yield a possibly spurious accuracy since their trustworthiness is no greater than that of premises whose validity cannot be established from the data at hand.
