Summary A sequential procedure for comparing a null hypothesis concerning the unknown mean of a normal distribution whose variance is known, against a two‐sided alternative hypothesis is presented. This procedure incorporates additional safeguards as required by the practicing experimenter. Furthermore, approximate formulae for the O.C. function and the A.S.N. function are derived.
