SUMMARY A technique for deriving asymptotic expansions for the variances of the errors of misclassification of the linear discriminant function (Anderson's classification statistic) is developed. These expansions are shown to be in reasonable agreement with the sample values of the variances of the errors obtained from some sampling experiments.
