The work of several authors (Adorno, Benjamin, Berger, Lukacs, and Sartre) who have Marxist‐related approaches to literature is examined in order to present a review of the problems involved in the relationship between literature and everyday life. It is suggested that literature does not have to be “applied” or “realistic” to convey what is implicated in different literary forms and genres (novels, short stories, and poetry).
