A soundly conceived and well executed programme of multi‐disciplinary research has allowed the evolution of modern locust control on a sound scientific basis. What is still required, if further disaster is to be avoided, is the exploitation of those results by carefully recruited cadres of anti‐locust personnel in those countries where locusts are important, both to the countries themselves and to the countries likely to receive those locusts if not properly controlled.
