Summary The Emperor Tiberius asked what song the Sirens sang. Sir Thomas Browne cautiously said this was ‘not beyond all conjecture’. In recent times scientists have applied their specialities to conjecture on historic events and peoples. Famous people attract such attention and in some cases their death or illness may be food related. Ten such cases are presented here.
