In a 1 year prospective survey of the safety and economy of re‐used plastic insulin syringes 9843 syringes were used 93 867 times with one possible injection site infection. On average syringes were used 5.7 days before changing. Re‐use of plastic syringes would produce an annual saving of about #15 per patient when compared with glass syringes.
