What's known on the subject? and What does the study add? The history of The Urological Society of Australasia was written by Sally Wilde and published by Hyland House in 1999.Whilst this documented geographical and numerical growth along with some structural changes, it did not discuss the change in and development of organisational structure. This paper describes how the growth of an organisation can at times proceed at a rate not matched by concurrent growth in organisational skill. The need for review of structure and the mechanism to affect change that matches and facilitates growth, together with some of the consequences are discussed.•  A review of the history and development of the Urological Society of Australasia now the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand
