SUMMARY There are many different techniques of sling surgery for female incontinence and numerous materials are available for use as a suburethral sling. Autologous materials are associated with more success and fewer complications than cadaveric material. The objectives of this review are to identity the benefits and adverse effects of suburethral sling procedures. There is no evidence that suburethral slings are better or worse than other surgical or conservative management because no trials have addressed this comparison.
