Summary— A number of patients with medullary sponge kidney recurrently form and pass stones with the risk of developing an obstructive nephropathy. These patients may benefit from extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy to the medullary collections, as this appears to reduce the frequency of symptomatic stone passage.
