Summary— Of 781 patients with germ cell cancer, 14 developed a second (subsequent) testicular cancer during follow‐up. The incidence was not related to the treatment of the first germ cell cancer. In particular, adequate cisplatin‐based chemotherapy did not reduce the risk of developing a second tumour. Screening programmes in patients with previous germ cell tumours should include all patients, irrespective of prior treatment.
