Retroperitoneal processes involving the urinary tract are relatively infrequent and include mainly idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis or carcinoma‐tous periureteritis. The existence of a retroperitoneal xanthogranuloma leading to bilateral hydro‐nephrosis is exceptional, since only one case has been reported (Sadoughi et al ., 1973).
