Scrotal swellings in 18 patients were examined by ultrasound. Sonography can differentiate fluid from solid masses. All but 2 patients who had torsion of the testicle were correctly diagnosed prior to operation. Although this is only a preliminary report, it does demonstrate that useful information may be obtained by this method.
