Summary A simple technique for the urethral pressure profile estimation has been studied and evaluated. The estimation would appear to be relatively free of sources of error. The diagnostic importance of the test in distinguishing between the normal patient and the patient with sphincter weakness has been discussed. We should like to thank the consultants at the Shaftsbury Hospital, London Hospital and Chelsea Hospital for Women for referring patients to us, and in particular Professor C. J. Dewhurst of the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Professor J. P. Blandy of the London Hospital. One of us (L. E.) carried out this work as part of the requirement for the M. Chir. degree of the University of Cambridge.
