Summary An explanted renal pelvis preparation in the dog is described, This experimental model permits ureteric catheterisation in the conscious animal and the recording of ureteric contraction waves under controlled conditions. Studies with this model hav shown that the frequency of peristalic contractions in the intact dog ureter can be influenced by pharmacological means, and suggest that this technique may be used for the screening of drugs for their effects on ureteric activity.
