SUMMARY Injection of the prostate with sclerosing solutions in an endeavour to relieve acute retention is not infrequently followed by perineal pain which may be associated with extravasation of fluid outside the prostatic capsule. It is suggested that though this technique is sometimes valuable, it is not completely reliable and is probably of limited application at least at the present time.
