SUMMARY Eighty‐five patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia, who were bad risks for prostatectomy, were treated by injection of phenol into the adenoma. Two out of three with retention were relieved. The technique proved less successful for those without retention: this is attributed to bad selection of cases and to the incidence of retention and exacerbation of symptoms as complications.
