SUMMARY1  Long‐term studies of reno‐portal venous anastomosis in the dog show that this has no adverse effect on renal or hepatic function, nor does it cause portal hypertension. 2  The main possible clinical application of R.P.V.A. is for the relief of hypertension due to renal ischemia. An interesting but conjectural use is as a preferential site for renal allografts. 3  The theoretical basis for these possible uses of R.P.V.A. are considered in detail.
