SUMMARY A review of the clinical features, complications, and treatment of 285 maie patients with bladder diverticulum seen at the Mayo Clinic during a 10‐year period is presented. In 19 patients (7 per cent.), malignant changes within the diverticulum had occurred. In 25 of the 31 patients in whom elective diverticulectomy was done for non‐malignant complications, the specimen showed evidence of premalignant changes. Based on these findings, together with a critical appraisal of the mortality and morbidity of elective diverticulectomy in our own experience and in reported series, prophylactic excision of bladder diverticula is recommended as the therapy of choice.
