SUMMARY Experience of trans‐rectal biopsy, using a fine needle, as a means of diagnosing carcinoma of the prostate is described. Emphasis is laid on the minor nature of the procedure, its cytological reliability and on the useful supporting evidence of malignancy afforded by enzyme estimation of the aspirate. The technique is considered to be a valuable diagnostic method in prostatic disease.
