SUMMARY Cystourethrography is valuable in the investigation of the lower urinary tract, and we have been using it in the study of the pathology of the urethra. An anatomo–radiological classification of the urethral segments is proposed, and some conditions are discussed with attention to the type and distribution of strictures. Fistulas follow intravasation of urine into the cavernous spaces and veins during micturition with subsequent thrombophlebitis and abscess formation secondary to pyasmic emboli in the penile venous plexus. The urethrovesical injection stream effect as a sign of bladder neck contraction is described.
