SUMMARY Urinary lactate dehydrogenase activity was determined in 114 persons. An eight–hour urine collection was reliable and convenient. Raised U.L.D. levels were obtained in 76 per cent, of cases with malignant disease. It is of no value in differentiating benign from malignant conditions. Raised U.L.D. levels indicated severe urinary tract disease and could be used as a screening test.
